The Namibian deserts, plains and highland regions have fascinated adventurers, settlers and travellers for centuries. This is a land where rain, nature’s most important gift, shapes the landscape – and mankind itself. Only the strongest survive in such climatic extremes. Namibia’s abundance of game – kudu, springbok, zebra, warthog and oryx – is due to their ability to adapt to such conditions. Master engraver Peter Ewald had a lot of different ideas for this project. But together with the SAUER-team he selected one of the great Namibian duels - leopard against baboon for the main motif on the left side of the receiver. There is no doubt about the strength of the leopard, but a big male baboon is a dangerous competitor - even for the wildest African cat. If you’re looking for the oryx, you’ll find a pair on the blued steel grip cap, in the gold Namibian flag. On the trigger guard, Ewald engraved a springbok; on the bolt sleeve, a male warthog; and on the magazine butt plate, his majesty himself – a big kudu bull. Ornaments, English arabesques and gold lines surround all engravings. |
